Euthanasia is Not Different from Murdering

by: Piasti Sopandani

The ill people whom the family can not control emotions because of the ill’s people pity look, choose to do euthanasia. Euthanasia comes from the Greek "eu" meaning good or well, and "thana" meaning death. It isn't a new issue, in 1516 Thomas More proposed a system called euthanasia in which patients dealing with incurable diseases were offered a choice of a good and easy death. It is very important to clarify the values of today. In recent times, euthanasia is frequently called "mercy killing." Nowadays, as high technology environments are developing, a "natural" death is almost impossible. Euthanasia is a way of relieving ill people’s pain and save them from the turtores of their illness. Euthanasia is just same as a murder, because it’s not appreciate human life, make ill persons hopeless, and sins.

First, euthanasia is not appreciate human life. Life is the greatest thing that given to us from the God. Although in worst situation, or in any pity look of anybody, we another humans are doesn’t have any belonging to end anybody’s life, because it’s all on God’s Hand. Besides, every people have the same right to life that have been ruled in regulation. Nobody can pay someone’s life, because life only given once and nothing can exchange it.

Second, euthanasia make the ill person’s hopeless. The ill people still have spirit for recover from the illness, it shown by they’re still alive untill they get euthanasia. Even the people know that they were not had a long lifespin anymore, they still consume the medicine given by the doctor. Although the family doesn’t know, i’m sure that every night, every hour, and every time the ill people always pray to the God hoping some miracle happen to recover him. Every people have to struggle for survive, and people around them should appreciate or better help them from their problem with the best way.

Last, about sins. Not only the family who choose to use euthanasia as the way to end the ill people from their pain will get sins, but also many people will get this effect. The medical team will also get this effect too, because they use their hands and ability to end someone’s life. The age of every people is on God’s hand. We don’t have entitled to determine when the people die.

As pity as anything somebody was, it doesn’t mean we should release them from their pain with end their life, but, we have to give them another better way for help. If we see from those three points of view we can infer that euthanasia isn’t the best way. Euthanasia is not different with murdering, because euthanasia doesn’t have any humanity life.

Making References and Bibliographies

This posting is taken from http://folk.uio.no/hhasselg/Metode/references.htm

References

When you write an academic paper, it is common courtesy to acknowledge your sources. There are various ways of doing this, and here we give you one system. The list of references at the end of your paper must contain all the works you have quoted or made reference to or used in any other way in your paper. It is important that the reference is correct, because it should be possible for an interested reader to find the text you are referring to.

Quotations
A short quotation of up to 2-3 lines is put in quotation marks and integrated in the running text. The quotation is followed by a short reference to where it was taken from. This is an example of how you give a short quotation: “grammatical labels are very rarely appropriate for all instances of a category” (Halliday 2004: 199). The full reference of the book/article you are quoting from must be given in the reference list.

Longer quotations are written like this, with indentation. You do not use quotation marks, since the quotation is marked by the indentation. The reference to the work the quotation is taken from has to follow the quotation, as with shorter quotations. (author, year of publication, page number)

If you highlight a part of the quotation, you should state that the emphasis is your own, and did not appear in the original text. Example:

The theme extends from the beginning of the clause up to (and including) the first element that has a function in transitivity. This element is called the 'topical Theme'; so we can say that the Theme of the clause consists of the topical Theme together with anything else that comes before it. (Halliday 1994:53, my emphasis)

If there is a mistake in the text that you are copying from, you write a [sic!] immediately after the mistake.
If you need to add anything to a quotation (e.g. full noun phrase instead of pronoun) you do so in square brackets.

Making references
When you refer to other people's work without quoting them directly, you insert a reference in brackets. Here are some examples of how you can do it:

The theme is a 'containing inferable' (cf. Prince 1981:236) which is related to the hypertheme of the text, thus preserving the thematic progression of the original. (The reference is given because the term is introduced and explained in that paper.)

However, as has been pointed out in a number of studies (Thompson 1987, Matthiessen and Thompson 1988, Ford 1993), the syntactic subordination entails a backgrounding of an initial clause in relation to the main (or matrix) clause. (The reference is given in order to give examples of writers who have this view, and point the readers to where they can find it.)

Syntactically, one of the most conspicuous differences between English and Norwegian sentence openings is that English has an even greater preference than Norwegian for subjects in initial position, and conversely, that Norwegian has a wider variety of sentence elements in initial position (Hasselgård 1997). (The reference is given because these things are explored in greater detail in that paper.)

VEGETARIANISM IS VERY GOOD AND NEEDED

by: Alda Salviana

Vegetarian is the name of the people that only eat vegetables and do not eat the food that made of meat, bird, ducks, chickens, seafood, and eggs. Vegetarianism is the life and the eat-style. Now, vegetarianism has become a life style of lots of people around the world. There are some types of vegetarianism, there are semi vegetarianism that consumed only vegetables and ‘white meat’ (fowls, eggs, and less of seafood), the second one is vegetarianism with egg, and the last is pure vegetarianism that only consumed vegetables. Vegetarianism is very good and we need to be vegetarian, at least we can learn not to eat ‘red meat’ (cows, sheep, goat and pigs), and why it is so important to do? Well, there are so many reasons about that. The biggest reasons are vegetarianism gives us many benefits more than the disadvantages one. The benefits are; vegetarianism is healthy for physically and mentally, cheaper than non-vegetarian one, and even more, vegetarianism can reduce global warming also.

Vegetarianism is very healthy not only physically but also mentally. Many people think that vegetarianism is not healthy enough because people think that we will get lack of nutrients like protein, vitamins, and get sick because of that. Well, those perceptions are wrong. In fact, protein that needed for child 0-6 age is just 10gr, for a man is 25gr, and for a woman 48gr per day, and those protein can fulfilled by vegetables, like soybean, tempe, and tofu. One slice of tempe (4x1x1 cm) is enough to fulfilled our protein need and it provides vitamin B12 also. More over, with eat more vegetables and less of meat can decrease the risk of cholesterol, heart coroner, osteoporosis, and hypertension. Because vegetarians eat vegetables more than meat so, besides they get healthy body, but also can get slimmer. Besides physically, vegetarianism is good for our mental too. It can help us to control our emotion. Vegetarianism can help us to be patient and care more about world and animals’ life. For examples, vegetarian must not eat meet, so they control their emotion and be patient for not eat meat, then they care about animal’s life more than before, because they already realize that animals have a life too.

People know that vegetarianism is cheaper than non-vegetarian one. We can see that when we buy 500gr of meat, we can buy more vegetables in the same cost. To eat three times a day, vegetarians spend less of money than non-vegetarian one, because vegetarians just eat vegetables and add some eggs, they do not need meat as their first food. We also know that 1 tempe is cheaper than 100gr meat of course. The little disadvantage is just maybe we get bored because there are not enough variant of vegetarian food, but sometimes we can also buy vegetarian food (like meat but made from vegetables), or we can make vegetarian food by our self or from the recipe, so we will not get bored with vegetarian food.

Many people do not realize that become vegetarian can help to reduce global warming. Now, many vegetarian associations persuade people to become vegetarian because they concern about global warming. FAO said that 1/5 gasses of green house effect are come from breeding animals’ fesses. The fesses contain NO2, CO2, and other gasses that may harm our earth and can increase global warming, it is more then the pollution from cars and motorcycles. Vegetarian can reduce those gasses effect until 50% (more ore less 1.2 ton of CO2 a year), it is more effective than to reduce the use of cars and motorcycle. More over, based on the research, 1ham (hamburger) uses 1.5-7.2 m² rainforest. The forests are cutting down to make a barn field. So, imagine if one man eats 1kg ham a week, how many forests will be cutting down? Slowly but sure, our rainforest will be end.

In short, based on the fact above, I can say that vegetarianism is very good for us, because vegetarianism not only make us healthy but also can reduce global warming and save our earth. So, why don’t we try to be vegetarian? At least we can eat more vegetables and less of meat, we can try from not eat meet and we can change it with eggs and fish.

Diet is not a Better Choice

by: Dian Wahyuningsih

Dietary habits are the habitual decisions an individual or culture makes when choosing what foods to eat. Proper nutrition requires the proper ingestion and equally important, the absorption of vitamins, minerals, and fuel in the form of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. A particular diet may be chosen to seek weight gain, weight loss, sports training, cardio-vascular health, avoidance of cancers, food allergies and for other reasons. Diet causes many illness, not so good for teenager, and there`s other choice than diet.

Firstly, diet was causes many illness. Having a diet addict increases your risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke, breathing problems, arthritis, gallbladder disease, sleep apnea (breathing problems while sleeping), osteoarthritis, and some cancers. Other horrifying illness caused by unhealthy diet are anorexia nervousa which is make you look so pale although you aren`t sick. Your health care provider can help you figure out your body mass.

Secondly, diet is not so good for teenager. It is tempting to eat less healthy foods because they might be easier to get or prepare, or they satisfy a craving. Between family and work or school, you are probably balancing a hundred things at once. As a student need some energy for studying. How they can concentrate at school if they`re hungry. And teenager is a time for growth for girl, limit for growth is 17 years old and for boy is 21 years old. Sometime, for girls they doing diet in order to be as perfect as they can do for their boyfriends. But, if you have a boyfriend/girlfriend which love you wholehearthedly, he/she will accpect your negative sides especially your physical appearance.

Thirdly, there`s many way become healthy than diet. Exercise is the best way for healthy when you do it regularly. You can make sense of the mounds of nutrition information there. A little learning and planning can help you find a healthy body to fit your lifestyle, don’t be alcoholic, smoked and drug addict. Always smiles for healing stress can be the next answer become healthy. Think positive although in bad situation.

Can you imagine that? The bad sides if you`re unhealthy diet person. You`ll got the horrifying illness caused by uncontrolled diet. And also remember that exercise, eat nutrician food, think positive, always smile in every condition are the example that there`re many way become healthy.

The Rain Forest Destruction Must Be Prohibited

by: Hengky

Rain forest has important role of human life. Rainforests are forests characterized by high rainfall, with definitions setting minimum normal annual rainfall between 1750-2000 mm (68-78 inches).Rainforests are home to two-thirds of all the living animal and plant species on Earth. It has been estimated that many hundreds of millions of species of plants, insects and microorganisms are still undiscovered.

Tropical rainforests are rainforests in the tropics, found near the Equator (between the Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn) and present in southeast Asia (Myanmar to Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, northern and eastern Australia), sub-Saharan Africa from Cameroon to the Congo, (Congo Rainforest), South America (the Amazon Rainforest) Central America (Bosawás, southern Yucatán Peninsula-El Peten-Belize-Calakmul), and on many of the Pacific Islands(such as Hawaii).

Tropical rainforests have been called the "Earth's lungs," although it is now known that rainforests contribute little net oxygen additions to the atmosphere through photosynthesis. More than half of the world's species of plants and animals are found in the rainforest.

Rainforests support a very broad array of fauna including mammals, reptiles, birds and invertebrates. Mammals may include primates, felids and other families. Reptiles include snakes, turtles, chameleons and other families while birds include such families as vangidae and Cuculidae. Dozens of families of invertebrates are found in rainforests. Fungi are also very common in rainforest areas as they can feed on the decomposing remains of plant and animal life.

Tropical rainforests have been called the "jewels of the Earth," and the "world's largest pharmacy," because of the large number of natural medicines discovered there. People can’t live perfectly without forest.

Forest has many functions for human life. Wood is the most important and the most used by people. With wood people can make paper, a house, furniture, and many more. But, nowadays many people don’t care about the rain forest.

They cutting the trees, take out the trash in the forest, exploitation the forest and many more. They don’t care the effect of rain forest destruction, they just priority their want.

The rain forest destruction must be prohibited. The bad effect of rain forest destruction can damage an animal habitats, temperature of earth can be hotter than now, water sea level can raising, island sinking, and flooding.

First, rainforest destruction can damage animal habitats. Many animals were extinct. Animal extinct happened because of human activity, for example exploitations the forest and animal didn’t have house, cant live so that they dead. ”badak bercula satu” is one of example of animal extinct, it cause by the forest destruction. And now the government of Indonesia make a place in ujung kulon(west java) for conserve “badak becula satu”.

Secondly, the rainforest destruction can cause temperature of earth can be hotter than now. Nowadays temperature on our earth is hotter than past. Why it can be happened? People cutting trees or exploitations the forest is the first factor. One of the function of rain forest are rain forest can circulate the CO2 in our earth and change it into 02 that human need for respirations. However if the number of trees just a little, it can interfere with the circulation of CO2 into O2. Forest destruction can decrease the adsorbing of CO2 and the earths will hotter cause of gas CO2.

Thirdly, the rainforest destruction can make Water Sea level rising. It can happened cause the temperature of earth hotter, than it can make melting of North and South Pole, so that the water level can increasing. Fourthly, the rain forest destruction can cause an island sinking. Because of the water level increasing, many islands were sinking. An Island can sink because water sea level increasing, make flooding and the island are covering by sea water.

Finally, flood. Flooding can happened because of increasing of water sea level. High water sea level gets into the land and makes flooding. Example is street aim to bandara internasional soekarno hatta has flooding because of water sea level get into cengkareng street (08may08).

As a conclusion, the rain forest has an important role in human life. If we are not care about our forest earth will be messy. We must supported many program which to care, to protect, and to converse our environment. We must prohibit the rain forest destruction, if we are no stop that, it can cause many problems in human life.

Cheaper Doesn’t Always Mean Happier

by: Oki Haryo N.

Thesis statement:

  • Increasing human resource’s quality, maintaining and improving the system are three things to make a good transportation system that consider as difficult and expensive projects.

First body paragraph

  • First, good system ran by good workers
    1. Good quality is marked by good education while good education needs higher fee.
    2. Better payment, better worker.
    3. Bad payment may cause lack of attitude which can trigger deviance by the workers.
    4. ex. of deviance:
      • Corruption
      • Rule disobeying
      • Crime
      • Etc.
    5. Conclusion: Increasing the quality of human resource means to educate and pay the workers well which consider highly cost.

Second body paragraph

  • To make a good system of transportation, Don't forget to improve all the infrastructures.
    1. Improving the road to be a better road
    2. Bad quality of the road may cause disasters such as:
      • Traffic jam
      • Car Accident
      • Car hijacking
    3. Providing better vehicles.
    4. Expanding the route.
    5. Conclusion: Although highly cost, improving all aspects that need to be improved will make our journey to home or workplace safe and comfort.

Third body paragraph.

· The last but not least, maintaining the infrastructure of transportation yet become very important if we want to always feel safe and comfort while we are traveling although it cost a lot.

    1. Keeping the road and the vehicle in good condition are cost.
    2. Ignoring the maintenance of transportation infrastructure is the same as ignoring our safety.

Concluding Paragraph:

  • There is always a cost when we want to create a good transportation system.

Cheaper Doesn’t Always Mean Happier

How do you go to your office or to your school everyday? Using public transportations or your own ride? Well, for those who traveling in Jakarta by your own car or motorbike, it seems to be safer and more comfortable, isn’t it? But, those who use public transportation may also have something different. You will feel something that personal vehicle rider will never feel. You also pay lesser price than those who use their personal vehicle. But in developing country like Indonesia, especially in a crowded city such as Jakarta, sometimes we found that “cheap doesn’t guarantee happiness”. Why? It is because we are still a developing country. We are still developing in many aspects until now, including develops our transportation system. Sometimes we find several cheaper ideas that still doubtful. In my opinion, I’d prefer paying more than using uncertain choice. It also happens when choosing public transportation. There are a lot of choice that offering cheaper price but still uncertain, we don’t know whether it safe or not. This condition actually depends on how good our transportation system is. How to make a good transportation system? It is what we will discuss in this passage. Increasing human resource’s quality, maintaining and improving the system are three things to make a good transportation system that consider as difficult and expensive jobs.

First, a good system comes from good quality of people who run the system. Transportation workers are the main human resources to run a transportation system. Their quality depends on their education and payment. But, most of transportation workers in Indonesia are still in bad quality. Their educational background and payment are still below the par. Their bad quality brings to lack of attitude that may triggers deviance. For example, one of the deviances that happened is corruption that happened among DLLAJR officer. The simplest one is ineffectively wasting working time. We often see it. The other example is when we found a driver of public transportation disobeying the rules. They often cause traffic jam and risking many people. The bad payment will tend them to be criminals as well. Fixing them by educating and paying them well will consider highly cost.

Secondly, to make a good system of transportation, our government, (or even) we must improve all aspects that need improvement. For example are the road and the vehicle. Broken road that has not being fixed may cause disasters such as traffic jam, traffic accident, and car jacking. The last seems to be the most dangerous. Vehicle usually walks slower when it through a broken road. This condition makes carjacker’s job getting easier. Low quality of vehicle also causes bad things. Based on research, low quality vehicle including old vehicle has more tendency to crush than a vehicle with better quality. A vehicle also must passed emission test which is done periodically. According to the statistics, fixing broken roads and providing good vehicle for public transportation take a high cost. But, it is one example of public transportation improvement. It takes Rp. 720.000.000,-/unit to provide vehicle for “busway” project in Jakarta. I’m sure to fix a unit also has a price. Although highly cost, improving all aspects of transportation that need to be improved will make our journey to home or to workplace safe and comfort.

The last but not least, don’t forget to maintain all things that we consider as good things although it cost. “Transportation is a precise business”, ( The Transporter). This quotation is true. All aspects related to transportation and must precisely calculate. One missed calculation means death. That’s why it is very important to maintain a vehicle in a good condition. Ignoring the maintenance of transportation infrastructure is the same as ignoring our safety. But once again, maintain something good also has a cost. Although cost, maintaining the infrastructure of transportation yet become very important if we want to always feel safe and comfort while we are traveling.

There is always a cost when we want to create a good transportation system. People that choose safety and comfort as priority in traveling are happier people than the people who only demand for the cheaper one although they must pay more for the cost.

Movie Censorship Institution

by: Anita Iriana

Movie censorship institution (LSF) is made on government regulation no. 8, 1992 about movies. Every movie or advertisement which will be turned in television or cinemas has to exceed censor. Movie censorship institution has duty to censor movie and advertisement which will be showed in front of society, determine themes, pictures, scenes, sounds or texts, and give opinion about it. Truthly, to say that movie censorship institution is important or not is not easy. In one said, communication is human right and it is protected by government. But in other side, if there were no movie censorship institution, there will be violence. In this situation, our country is demanded to take an important role to protect their society from negative influences which is caused by cinematography opus, including movie. To prevent those things, I think movie censorship is important because of its benefits like reduce porno action, violence, and avoid fights among the elements of society.

First is reduce porno action. One of many terrified things that we worried now is pornography and porno action which become trend in this era. May be it happens because of globalization. The expansion of globalization has negative effects in the development of our movies. Our culture moved and changed. We never prepared for it like another countries which had prepared their self before to face pornography and porno action. They can maintain their culture and able to absorb the benefits from it. May be they do not need an institution like movie censorship institution because their way of think more than us. Can you imagine if there are coitus scenes which are showed in Indonesian society? Is it proper for them? Are we realize with its effects? It can go to free sex, which is not proper for our moral and culture.

Second is reduce violence in our society. May be we still remember with the death of elementary children because of watching wrestling scenes. It is pity to know that those movie is stopped after any victims and got the protest from many people. Violence act phenomenon which develops faster in our society may be is influenced by violence scenes in movie. As the effect, it can make an impression that violence in real life is corrected.

The last is avoid fights among the elements of society. Do you know with “Long Road to Heaven” movie? It is movie about Bali’s boom tragedy. This movie is can not be able to be turned in some regions. Many people dislike with movie censor ship institution decision. I think movie censorship institution has another idea so that this movie can not be turned. This movie is also rejected in Bali because it can open their memories about Bali’s tragedy, make horizontal conflict which is caused by Sara, and impede Bali’s recovery.

For the conclusion, I think movie censorship institution is important because of its benefits. They do their function and duty based on censor criteria to protect our society from negative effect which is caused by movie and not proper with our principal and aim of Indonesian movie. To build and to expand Indonesian movie in the future is our willingness as Indonesian society. We can do it without making controversial movies. We can do it with expanding the quality of the movie. For example are Ayat-ayat Cinta, Naga Bonar, and Harry Potter. Those movies are famous because of its quality. If every movie has quality like that, I think we don’t need movie censorship institution again.
